Meet Paul S. HaydenSave Energy Save Money - Energy Cost Reduction for the Home

Paul S. Hayden has been making energy and other home improvements for over 40 years.

After graduating from Auburn University in 1965, he joined Reynolds Metals Company (the creators of Reynolds Wrap* and aluminum can recycling) as an industrial engineer. Reducing costs and improving operating performances for the company became his profession.

He retired from Reynolds, a Fortune 500 company, in 1997, after rising to corporate vice president and general manager of some of the company's most energy efficient operations. In 1998, he formed his own company, Home Designs and Innovations, and intensified his efforts in helping homeowners in a variety of climates lower their energy costs. His book includes the company's best do-it-yourself energy cost reducing projects.

"My career at Reynolds and personal travels have taken me to many countries of the world. Japan’s high energy costs, Norway and Switzerland’s harsh winters, and the tropics’ high heat and humidity are specific challenges for home design. I discovered that some of their regional practices would be useful to home design in America.

The United States has enjoyed some very low energy costs in the past, and our home designs and codes often reflect our cheap fuel. However, during the past few years, we have seen fuel shortages, brownouts, rationing, uncomfortable homes, allergy prone air, and high utility bills as well as an increase in offshore oil dependency.

There is much that we can do to improve existing homes, energy consumption, and comfort.  Without even adjusting our thermostats, we can accomplish significant savings."
